Amber A. Dye

Amber Dye received her BFA in printmaking and drawing from the University of Central Florida in 1996. Her current paintings and series of prints are inspired by medical and anatomical illustrations, several books on medical oddities, and the idea of constructing body parts/objects that are physically impossible. She imagines ways in which to change the human body, and these ideas evolve into her art.

PRINT ZERO STUDIOS - PRINT EXCHANGE #5
Print Zero Studios was started in Seattle by Jeremy Cody & Brian Lane in 2003 as a way to support the younger printmaking community. Through organizing shows at alternative spaces, multiple large scale print exchanges, and networking, we hope to expose younger printmakers work while side by side with established artists, thus strengthening this community. Print Zero Studios is based out of Seattle, WA & Athens, OH.

The Print Exchange started as a way to collect work from a small group of friends and it turned into an exchange & show of 31 artists. We saw the potential to help foster the profile of printmaking by extending the exchange as an open invitation. Utilizing the online print communities, university print programs, & word of mouth, the exchange has grown exponentially. Last year we had 285 participants from 18 countries, and the exchange was exhibited in 4 states.

This year the exchange is expected to travel to at least a half dozen locations around the country.

Paul Holt "Rowing Through Fremont to Sardegna"
Paul Holt received a BA from The Evergreen State College in 1975. He began making prints in the late 70’s as an experiment to his work in photography.

The experiment soon turned to fascination. He made prints for several years, often printing by hand when presses weren’t available. In 1986 Paul took a brief eighteen year break to make children. Although he continued to work in photography and video, it wasn’t until 2004 that he resumed printmaking.

He came to Sev Shoon to make one print. Two and a half years later he has pushed the capacity of his flat files and thanks to Sev Shoon he is thoroughly addicted. His work has been on view in the The SPA Imprimo show in November 2006 and at Gallery 110 where he is an affiliate member.

The September show is a journey of work created at Sev Shoon from the first “ I’m only looking for a place to make one print” to the diverse exploration which Sev Shoon has allowed him to do in this brief time. He is grateful for the space and tools which were used to make these prints, but more so for the printmaking community which encourages growth and exploration in the medium and beyond.

New works can be seen in a November solo show at Some Space Gallery in Seattle and at the Galley 110 loft in January ’08.

October 2007

On one level:
The Sev Shoon Arts Center is proud to show the work of Nigerian artist-in-residence Krydz C. Ikwuemesi who will be spending two weeks working in the center. Krydz is a painter whose very colorful paintings deal with issues of life, beliefs, culture and tradition, and the relationship to modern Africa.

On another level:
Members of the group were classmates in printmaking at North Seattle Community College. They were taught and mentored by Seattle artist and NSCC professor, Joan Stuart Ross.  The strength of this show is the wide variety of styles achieved as each member brings her own subject matter, techniques, and color palette to her prints. Participating artists are Salina Batt, Margie McCarty, Theresa Connolly, Linda Hendricks, Jill Pollock, Berit Ringo, Lynn Rodgers, and Jennifer Swant. (Ahem, proudly some of these fine artists are residents here at Sev Shoon!)
