Davidson Galleries, Seattle Print Arts and Sev Shoon continue their
very successful collaboration with a new series of talented artists
who will be showing their prints at Davidson's next year, and while
in town for their opening, will either give a public lecture or a
workshop at Sev Shoon.

The Sev Shoon Arts Center participates in
the Ballard ARTWalk every 2nd Saturday, 6-9PM, May through December. Gallery Hours are May through December by appointment only.
In November, Mike McGovern, an instructor at Sev Shoon , will be "painting with screens", a collaborative screen-printing experience. Viewers and walk-ins are encouraged to participate in this hands-on collaborative printing experience using screen-printing. We will be layering and experimenting with different images and colors printing onto large sheets of paper and other alternative surfaces.
Join us during Ballard ARTwalk, Saturday November, 14th from 6-9PM.

December 2009
Instead of holiday cards, it is a Japanese tradition to send New Year's postcards called Nengajyo, to friends and family. We will be celebrating the year of the tiger for 2010. Long time member of Sev Shoon Arts Center Yoshi Nakagawa will teach you how to print at home.
Come to December's Artwalk with your favorite tiger image to fit a 4"x 6" linoleum plate, which we will carve out to print as a Nengajyo. If you have carving tools, bring them, if not some will be provided.

Long time Sev Shoon Arts Center member Bobbi Pearce will be giving demonstrations on Collagraph Printing. Her collage techiniques uses such materials as textured paper, fabric, and plant matter.
Please join us from 6-9pm Saturday October 10th, during the Ballard ARTwalk to see this process take form.

Barbara Bruch, MFA, longtime student of Glen Alps, developer of the Collagraph, will demonstrate how to make and print Collagraph plates using found materials. These are techniques used in hazardless printmaking, which can be fun and full of surprises.

Similar to traditional lithography, paper lithography is a planographic method allowing one to use oil based inks to bond to the toner information from a photocopy and ultimately transfer this image to paper. This method is non-toxic and enables one to transfer images with color inks.
Van Someren holds a MFA in Printmaking from the University of Washington and a BA from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. She is an Instructor in Printmaking at the University of Washington, Everett Community College, Pratt Fine ArtsCenter and the Sev Shoon Arts Center. She is also currently the studio manager of the Sev Shoon Arts Center in Seattle,Washington.
Van Someren works primarily in etching, woodcut, and monotype, the majority of her works utilizing these methods simultaneously.
Van Someren has exhibited locally and nationally; her work included in several collections including the New York Public Library, the University of Iowa, the University of Washington and Yale University’s Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library.
May 2009
Sev Shoon is excited to feature demonstrations by Instructor and Artist Anna McKee.
May 9th, 6-9pm during the Ballard ARTWalk

Anna McKee, At the Divide
Anna McKee uses a variety of printmaking processes but most often copper plate etching with chine collé and collography. She is fascinated by the recursive patterns that repeat in the natural world when contrasting human and geologic history. The geologic memory trapped in plants and land contains a record of profound time and acts as a metaphor for the collective memory of the earth.
Anna has a Masters in Landscape Architecture from the University of Washington (1992) and studied drawing and painting at The Gage Academy of Art and printmaking at Pratt Fine Arts Center. She maintains a studio in Ballard and is represented by Francine Seders Gallery.
