SILKSCREEN-BASED PHOTOETCHING ON COPPER

A fantastic class for etchers interested in new ways to convert their image into a print! In this class, you will learn to create a photo realistic print by silkscreening your drawing or photograph onto a copper plate and further developing it with aquatint and other intaglio techniques. You will also investigate mixed media applications, explore photo-relief etchings, multiple plate registration, mono-prints, color, and the relationship between photographic images and hand made marks.

RELIEF PRINTING

Times: 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Learn to safely use linoleum cutting tools and barrens (traditional hand printing tools) to get the results you want. This class will emphasize low toxicity methods, introducing a second color to a block working with registration and how to adapt this process at home, printing by hand.
A wonderful beginner’s class or great for returning students to focus on technique development and troubleshooting.

ADVANCED ETCHING

Dates: Wednesdays, May 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th
Times: 6:00pm – 10:00 pm
This class will build on your beginning etching skills, working with aquatint, ball grounds, sugarlift, white soap ground and spit bite on copper plates with ferric chloride etchant. We will observe and discuss each stage to increase your ability to control the etching process. Students will learn to print multiple plates using a la poupee inking techniques and chine collé. Students will be encouraged to complete a two-plate print using various methods to build a multi-colored image with a range of marks.
Prerequisite: Beginning etching class or equivalent.

ARTIST BOOKS using MOKU HANGA
Traditional Japanese Water-Based Woodcuts

Dates: Thursdays, May 6th, 13th, 20th (2 weeks off) June 10th, 17th, and 24th Times: 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm
This three-part class is designed for you to create your own book. Part One (3 weeks long): you will be shown a variety of book designs, see carving demos, and plan at least 4 prints which you will start carving. Part Two (2 weeks long): working both at home and at Sev Shoon on Open Studio Fridays, you will finish carving and start printing your images. Part Three (3 weeks long): your first day back will be dedicated to finishing printing your images, and the remaining two classes will be spent constructing your artist book.

BEGINNING / ADVANCED MONOTYPE

Times: 6:30pm – 10:00 pm
Starting with black & white and simple additive / subtractive techniques, this class will focus on color mixing, stenciling, trace monotype, collage and layering techniques. Use of acrylic plates, inks some tools and brushes included.
Beginner and intermediate students welcome. Individual attention for all levels of knowledge of monotype.
