PRINTMAKING CLASSES

Starting in JANUARY 2012

MONOTYPE

Dates: Mondays, January 23rd, 30th, February 6th
Times: 6:30pm-10pm

Explore a variety of monotype and print collage techniques. Pefect for artists who want to learn how to use a press or printmakers interested in exploring new processes!

Beginner and intermediate artists welcome.
Individual attention for all levels of knowledge of monotype.



Starting in FEBRUARY 2012

INTAGLIO EXPERIMENTS
Instructor: Betsy Barnum - betsy.danabetsy.com

$220+ $10 supply fee - both fees due with registration
($245+ $10 after January 25th, 5pm)
Dates: Wednesdays, February 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd
Times: 6pm-10pm

Etching may be an old process, but there’s nothing stuffy about this class! You will explore and experiment with intaglio processes from the simple to the complex. We will be focusing on more “non-toxic” methods, but fear not, if you can imagine it, we will do it! Copper etching and engraving, acrylic plate drypoint, soft-ground impressions, and multiple color printing are just a sampling of what you will learn.

Beginners and experienced etchers welcome!

BEGINNERS' BOOTCAMP

Dates: Thursdays, February 9th, 16th, 23rd and March 8th (skip March 1st)
Times: 6pm-10pm

Printmaker's Bootcamp is a four week fun-and-information-packed course where we'll move through the basic fundamentals in printmaking including monotype, linoleum cut, and etching. Students will become confident in inking, using the press, and will learn the set of vocabulary and skills needed to create within the medium. This is a great survey course for artists Looking to discover which printmaking technique(s) suit them best, or to get refreshed in the many ways of making prints. This is a great class to give as a gift or for yourself.

Beginning and intermediate printmaking students are welcome. Please join us!

INTRODUCTION TO SILKSCREEN PRINTING :
Instructor: Elizabeth McDonald - lizmcdonald.com

$220 + $15 supply fee- both fees due with registration
($245 + $15 supply fee after Monday, February 6th, 5 pm)
$30 optional screen rental ($20 refund upon return of screen in same condition as received)
Dates: Mondays, February 13th, 20th, 27th and March 5th
Times: 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm

This class introduces students to the techniques and possibilities in the world of screen-printing. We will explore a variety of approaches from monotype to hand drawn and photographic. Students will have the opportunity to learn multiple layer registration as well as ink mixing and blending techniques. This class offers the unique opportunity to create images from the registration or to draw from old family portraits too photographs taken yesterday.

RELIEF PRINTING
Instructor: Theresa Neinas

$220 + $10 supply fee - both fees due with registration
($245 + $10 supply fee after Tuesday, February 21st, 5pm)
Dates: Tuesdays, February 28th, March 6th, 13th and 20th
Times: 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm

In this class Theresa will share with you what has taken her years to learn. Take the thinking out of "what is backwards? " or " what do I carve?" If you have struggled with these questions, and more, or just want some fine tuning, then this class is for you. Learn to use linoleum cutting tools and barens safely to get the results you want. Get an overview of relief block printing that touches on composition, technique and individual style. You do NOT need to know how to draw for this class. Come to class with some images, whether drawn or copies of photos you like. The end project will be uniquely yours.

This workshop will emphasize how to adapt this process to a home environment.

EXPERT BOOK BINDING FOR THE BEGINNER

$145 registration fee
($170 after Friday, February 24th, 5pm)
Dates: Saturdays, March 3rd and March 10th
Times: 10:00am – 3:00pm

The age-old skills of hand-bookbinding will be yours! We will bypass simple accordion and Japanese stab bindings and go straight for the throat! During this workshop you will create a beautiful hard-cover case-bound blank book to use as a sketchbook, journal, or manuscript! No experience needed.

Discounts: (*ONE only please) A) Register for multiple classes: each additional class is discounted $25 B) Have a friend register with you (at full price) and you save $25.

Registration Date: To benefit from the discounted rate, we must receive your registration a week prior to class start. Registration within a week of class start date will incur an additional $25 fee (as noted above). If the class is on a weekend, the cut-off date is the Friday a week before your class.

Cancellation Policy: Due to limited class size and our desire to optimize your time with your instructor: No portion of class fee will be refunded or applied to another class if cancellation occurs less than two weeks before class starts. If a cancellation occurs two weeks or more before class starts, a $30 registration fee will be charged.

Friday evenings, Free studio access: Students enrolled in classes during the current quarter get additional studio access, on Fridays, 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm, starting Friday, February 3rd through Friday, March 23rd. Friday evening studio access does not apply to one and two day workshops. All of the students personal materials must be removed no later than Friday, 10:00 pm, March 23rd. Sev Shoon Arts Center is not responsible for materials left on the premises.
