Lazerwitz 2001
My artwork is of an encaustic medium, made of beeswax, damar crystals, and powdered pigments. The process utilizes heat to melt and mix the beeswax and damar, changing the composition into a hard glossy finish. I am seduced by the medium and the many ways of combining other techniques to create layered paintings.
This work was inspired by my love for the garden landscape. Utilizing figurative and symbolic realism I am exploring the themes of our connection to our surroundings, the changing cycles of the "landscape" of our lives. Our emotions and memories are marked by the passing seasons, which give us the opportunity to reflect on our own evolution.
I am interested in questions of life rituals, and dreams, related to the patterns we return to, and how these weave into our daily lives triggering various needs and reactions.
