After developing a series of prints using circles as portholes to
look through, I became curious about what would happen if I cut into
the circles and extracted shapes from the inside. In the resulting
series, entitled “Within,” I found lively forms
that hint at narratives. They have tremendous coil and spring, with
sharp points and curves that penetrate, yet are attractive to the eye.
Solid colors are juxtaposed against translucent passages, sometimes
printed on both sides of translucent paper that is flecked with leaves,
which reinforces a sense of moving inside of the forms. The resulting
dynamic teases one’s sense of perception and underscores the
shifting aspect of a single point of view.
